When the season officially starts on September 5th we’ll be sure to release details of how these aspects of the adventure effect D&D Adventurers League play.
In Adventurers League, magic items are obtained during adventures (1-3 consummables plus 1 permanent per 4 hours session in average). But I'd like to know if it's possible for an AL charcter to buy a magic item (possibly using downtime) instead of finding it as aventuring loot.

Unfortunately I don’t have many of the 5e materials (just the PHB and Xanathar’s Guide) so I’m having some trouble figuring out what my language options are. My character is a human with the Sage background, and it’s definitely theme-appropriate to be a speaker (or at least a reader) of obscure languages, but I’m not sure where the boundaries are. The way I read the AL FAQ and the ToA Primer, I can take any of the exotic languages in the PHB, and Chultan if I’m Chultan (which I’m not) but what else, if any?
