(3) Soldiers in RC TPUs will take the APFT once each calendar year. A minimum of 8 months will separate record tests with no more than 14 months between record tests. Soldiers that require makeup testing or re-testing for an APFT failure are exempt from the 8-month rule. I got out some time ago, and I'm really more curious about re-enlisting sometime in the future. I miss serving and would like to do so again someday. I served 2 yearsenlisted, got a chapter 13 for PT failure(sep code JFT). RE-code of 3. If I walked into a recruiters office, what are my chances of getting a waiver to re-enlist?

Someone said: First off you didn't receive a honorable discharge, those are only reserved to soldiers who complete their tour of duty. You most likely received an administrative discharge, under honorable condition. The type of discharge is not as important as she RE code they gave you, RE1 is those who completed their enlistment, RE2 are those who could not finish their contract but not for bad reasons and yes you have a chance to get back in with an RE2.

RE3 is for those who get kicked out for misconduct but not serious crimes like drugs. There is a chance to enlist but it's slim and depends on why you were discharged. RE4 is a dishonorable discharge and no recruiter will even touch you. If a soldier, a few months before his 2nd deployment to Afghanistan, cannot meet the running requirements of a PT test wil he get an honorable dischrg? My son has always had problems with running and is scheduled for his 2nd Afghanistan deplayment in April. (He is Army infantry) He has been unable to meet the requirements for the running portion of his PT (everything else is fine) Running seems to be very important (guess you have to get away fast sometimes) and he is under the impression that they may separate him, but with an honorable discharge.

I find it hard to believe that and honorable discharge would be the one he`d get. Any info you could give me would be appreciated. Someone said: My son has been in the Army 3 1/2 yrs. He just got the hard copy of his orders today. He got a Chapter 13 honorable discharge his date is April 2, 2013. He did a tour in Iraq and had a leg injury while there ( torn MCL) he returned and has not been able to pass the running part of his PT test so they did discharge him. This whole seperation process took about 8 months.

He also told me that he has 2 copies of of discharge papers one is edited I think that has the reason he was discharged the other is what he would present as needed to others it only says honorable discharge. He was in terrible shape when he went in.he has lost all the weight and improved tremendously. I wish he would have trained longer before going to basic.as he was so close to passing this last time. As I know how much he really wants this.my question is can he try again? Re Code Zuccari

In general, those who receive an Army RE Code of RE-1 may reenlist in the Army or another service with no problem. Individuals with an Army RE Code of RE-3 are ineligible for reenlistment unless a waiver is granted. Individuals with an Army RE Code of RE-4 or RE-4R (retired) are normally not eligible to reenlist in the Army, nor to join another service. But many retired highly skilled veterans can find high-paying work as contractors doing a similar job to what they were doing while on active duty.
