Kramer Fr422 Reverse Headstock
I own a FRC and a HRR and think you are partially correct. On paper the HRR and the FRC are VERY similar, and they do come from the same era of Fender. The two couldn't be more different in practice though. The HRR neck is more like a Ibanez RG, where the FRC is based on a American standard neck, which some of them (mine) is kind of fat. I break them down like this.HRR = for the Ibanez player that wanted a Strat, but still wanted the neck and playability of the Ibanez.FRC = for the Strat player that wanted a Floyd Rose.You can't go wrong with either IMO. I've had mine for almost 20 years now.
There were earlier production MIJ FR Strats than those 90s' examples. I never see them though anywhere. I have one of the early MIJ Floyd Rose Strats that I acquired from a buddy years ago.

Serial number A036929 dates it as 1985-86, pretty certain this was an '85. I remember this was the first production strat I ever saw with a FR bridge.
It really was a good guitar, Alder body, Maple neck, Rosewood board, Fender Japan non-vintage tuners sealed tuners like Schallers, Floyd Rose without the later hideous recessed cavity in the body like in those 90's examples, Black paint, black pickguard and HSS PUPs, chrome hardware - unfortunately in it's lifetime it was butchered and poorly repainted and now resides in pieces in a case under my workbench. My friend recently got a new Mexican made Floyd equipped strat with a hum/single/single and rosewood board in Olympic white. I don't know if they all are like this but no lie this strat has got to be the best playing strat or super strat type guitar that both of us has ever played. The fit and finish is perfect, rosewood is dark and nice, frettwork is excellent, intonation is on and it keeps perfect tune and the Floyd works flawlessly. Peranbu box office collections. Another cool thing is the switching options allow the bridge humbucker to be coil tapped etc.
It even plays nicer then my bandmates custom shop Charvel and all for under $699 brand new. I am going to order one myself.
